Loudoun Rugby wins Tropical 7s 2026

(From Loudoun Now) – Loudoun Rugby’s U16 squad took the championship title at the Tropical 7s International Rugby Tournament in Tampa, FL, last weekend. It is the first local club victory at the tournament in eight years.

A loss in their first match made for a rocky start. But refusing to throw in the towel, Loudoun Rugby made a tournament–long comeback, winning all their remaining contests. The U16 team consists of Loudoun high schoolers from Woodgrove, Loudoun County, Independence, Loudoun Valley, St Paul VI Catholic and Rock Ridge high schools.

Coach Kenneth Fraine said every team Loudoun played during the tournament was either academy-related or an all-star group that pulled the best players from their region.
